About the Program
- Tailor your degree plan for either vocal or instrumental teaching as you gain the knowledge, skills and techniques you need to be a successful public school music teacher in Texas.
- Join one of our many ensembles, including the Ram Band, Chorale, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble, or a smaller chamber ensemble.
- You can also join our student organizations for networking and professional development.
Upon graduation, you will be eligible to sit for the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) teacher certification test. You can also expect to immediately start your music teaching career at any public school grade level, or to move on to graduate school.
The ASU music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
Program Faculty
Our faculty are also professionals who perform at the local, regional, national and international levels. You will work side by side with them in our studios, and our small class sizes mean you always get the individual attention you deserve.
Career Opportunities
Our graduates are employed as band and orchestra directors and assistant directors, choir directors and elementary music teachers in public school districts all over Texas. Others are church music directors and college music faculty, and some have gone on to graduate school.
The immediate job placement rate for our music program graduates has stayed above 90% over the last decade.
