Officer of the Year
Orlando Villarreal, 2019-2020
Orlando Villarreal was hired by the ASU Police Department in April 2008. He first started as a police dispatcher and public service officer. Orlando quickly became a “go to person” and his work ethic was second to none.
Following his graduation from the regional police academy, the University Police Department appointed him as a police officer in October 2008. Orlando’s consistent strong work ethic and great attitude towards his job was rewarded when he was promoted to Corporal and then later to Sergeant in November 2014.
Sgt. Villarreal now supervises the day shift patrol officers and serves as the department’s lead criminal investigator. He is known for his tireless pursuit in solving crimes and is an advocate on behalf of victims. He holds a Master Peace Officer certificate and is a graduate of Angelo State University. Sgt. Villarreal was also named Officer of the Year in 2010.
