How to Apply for Financial Aid

ASU Distinguished Scholarship

If you are selected for an ASU Distinguished Scholarships, you will be notified via mail within two weeks after you have been accepted for admission to ASU.

Financial Aid Package

You will receive an award letter letting you know much financial aid you will receive for the upcoming academic year, along with instructions on how to accept your aid package.

The amount of financial aid you are awarded is based on financial need, limitations set by the various financial aid programs and availability of funding.

ASU Distinguished Scholarship

You must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours for your ASU Distinguished Scholarship to be disbursed to your account. Your award will be applied to your bill if you meet this criteria.

Financial Aid Package

Upon acceptance, your financial aid award package will be credited to your account. You can view and accept the financial aid available to you through RamPort. Follow these simple steps:

1. Log in to RamPort.
2. Navigate to the Paying for College > Financial Aid & Scholarships page.
3. Click the “View/Accept Financial Aid Awards” button.
4. Go to the “Award Offer” tab.
5. Click the “Award Year” drop-down menu at the top of the page and select the award year.
6. Select the awards you would like to accept, and hit the “Submit” button.

Awards are generally dispersed evenly over the two long semesters - half is applied in the fall, the other half applied in the spring.

If your financial aid award (scholarships, aid packages, etc.) exceeds the cost of your bill, you will receive a refund. Refunds are automatically sent to your ASU OneCard unless another refund preference is selected.

Dropping a class mid-semester or withdrawing from the university could affect your financial aid.

ASU Distinguished Scholarship

If you withdraw or drop below 12 credit hours on or before the 12th class day of a regular semester, your scholarship disbursement will be canceled. This may create a balance due to the university.

If you withdraw, you may be required to reapply to the university. If you have to reapply, you are no longer eligible for a ASU Distinguished Scholarship. Also, if you decide to ‘sit out’ for a long semester (fall or spring), you will have to reapply for the university, also making you ineligible for your ASU Distinguished Scholarship.

Financial Aid Packages

If you receive financial aid and withdraw from the university, you may be required to pay all or part of the financial aid awarded.

Failing a class could also impact your award package. If you are receiving federal financial aid and fail to make a passing grade in all classes, a calculation will be performed to determine how much you owe back to the federal program.
