Federal Direct PLUS Loan Application for Parents Process

Federal Direct PLUS Loans are year specific and the credit expires after a specific time period. For this reason the Federal Direct PLUS Loan Application for Parents for the 2022-2023 award year will not be available on the https://studentaid.gov website until 5/1/2022.

Angelo State University participates in the Direct PLUS Loan Lending program. Direct Plus loans for Parent borrowers are credit based and year specific so a new credit application is required each year.

Credit Application

  1. Parent goes to https://studentaid.gov.
  2. Click on Apply for Aid.
  3. click on Apply for a Parent PLUS Loan.
  4. Click the Start button under the Apply for a PLUS Loan.
  5. Click on Log In and log on using the Parent’s FSA (FASFA) username and password.
  6. Select the correct Award Year from the drop down box.
  7. From this point you will read all of the information and answer the questions that appear. At the end there will be a submit button.
  8. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation, The Department of Education will send ASU confirmation with 24-48 hours.
  9. If approved, you will be prompted to complete the Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note).
  10. If denied, you have the option of appealing the credit decision or get an endorser. If you choose to not appeal the denial or get an endorser, student will be offered additional Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan by the school (up to $4000 for freshman/sophomore status and up to $5000 for junior/senior status).

Master Promissory Note

  1. Parent goes to https://studentaid.gov.
  2. Click on the Complete Aid Process link.
  3. Click on the Parent Plus MPN link.
  4. Click on the Start button.
  5. Parent signs in using their FSA (FAFSA) username and password.
  6. Complete all steps and then submit. From this point you will read all of the information and answer the question that appear. At the end there will be a submit button.
  7. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation. The Department of Education will send ASU a confirmation within 24-48 hours.
