This is our most prestigious scholarship program for transfer students, and it’s available exclusively at ASU.
Your Future, Our Commitment.
Awards are based on your GPA for your transferable courses and the number of your transferable credit hours. Once you have been admitted to ASU, you will automatically be considered. You don’t have to apply!
If you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), you may qualify for an additional $1,000 per year. See below for details about the PTK Scholarship.
Qualifications
You must be admitted to ASU.
You must meet the transferable credit hour and GPA requirements listed in the table above. Dual credit hours will not be counted in your transferable credit hours.
You must be pursuing your first bachelor’s degree.
*You must be nominated for the top-level $3,000 scholarship by a faculty, staff, or administrator of the institution you last attended (academic advisor, dean of student life, etc.) before you begin attendance at ASU. Nominations from personal contacts are not accepted.
If you are nominated for the $3,000 scholarship and have already qualified for another ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship, the lower-level scholarship will be canceled, and the $3,000 scholarship will be awarded.
You don’t have to apply for this scholarship. Once you are admitted to ASU, you will automatically be considered.
However, all your college transcripts must be received and processed by our Office of Admissions before the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships can review your eligibility.
If you are selected for an ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship, you will be notified by email.
The scholarship duration is split between two years by default.
However, if you receive either a $3,000 or $2,000 ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship, you can choose to split your maximum lifetime award between three years.
If you wish to modify your $3,000 scholarship to three years, you must fill out this Duration Form.
If you wish to modify your $2,000 scholarship to three years, you must fill out this Duration Form.
The ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship does not require you to be enrolled full time. It will prorate depending on how many credit hours you take:
At least 12 credit hours (full time) = 100%
9-11 credit hours = 75%
6-8 credit hours = 50%
Your scholarship disbursements may not exceed the maximum lifetime award limits detailed in the table above.
If you qualify for an ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship, you will be eligible to pay in-state tuition at ASU for the duration of your scholarship.
If you start out enrolled full time and then drop below 12 credit hours on or before the university’s census date (12th class day of a regular semester), your scholarship disbursement will be prorated. This may create a balance due to the university.
If you withdraw, you may be required to reapply to the university. If you have to reapply, you are no longer eligible for your ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship.
If you “sit out” for a long semester (fall or spring), you will be required to reapply to the university, and will no longer be eligible for an ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship.
The PTK Scholarship is for junior college transfer students who are members in good standing of PTK. If you qualify, you may be eligible to receive a $1,000 award for two years, as long as you are meeting the PTK renewal requirements.
Qualifications
You must submit a letter from your current PTK advisor to the ASU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships stating that you are a PTK member in good standing. The letter must be received by our office prior to the first class day of the semester you begin attending ASU.
PTK Scholarships are only awarded to students admitted as transfer students who are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.
Disbursement
You must be enrolled full time at ASU (at least 12 credit hours) for the scholarship to apply to your bill.
PTK Renewal Requirements
You must earn at least 24 ASU credit hours in the academic year (fall/spring/summer).
You must have an ASU GPA of 2.75 or higher at the end of the academic year.
Maximum Lifetime Award Limit
The PTK Scholarship is available for four long semesters (fall/spring) starting the semester you receive your first disbursement.
Once you receive your bachelor’s degree, you no longer qualify for the PTK Scholarship.
Renewal Requirements
You must meet the following standards, and you must remain in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university.
Institutional (ASU) Grade Point Average (GPA)
At least a 2.5 GPA at the end of the first year
At least a 2.75 GPA at the end of each subsequent year
Maximum Lifetime Award Limits
Your scholarship disbursements may not exceed the maximum lifetime award limits detailed in the table at the top of this page.
Your disbursements will end when you receive a bachelor’s degree.
Students who do not meet the renewal requirements by the end of the spring semester may reinstate their ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship by taking classes during the successive summer terms at Angelo State. Students who do not meet the renewal requirements by the end of the academic year (fall/spring/summer) will lose eligibility for their ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship.
Summer classes must be taken at ASU — courses cannot be transferred from another school.
Students taking summer classes at ASU must correct all deficiencies in order to reinstate scholarship eligibility for the next academic year.
Students have until the end of the summer term to reinstate eligibility before the fall semester begins. Students who do not meet the renewal requirements are no longer eligible for their ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship.
Students who withdraw may be required to reapply to the university. Students who have to reapply are no longer eligible for their ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship.
