Questions About Form 1098-T?
Details that you may want for tax preparation are available through the online 1098-T Tax Notification. Current and former students can find it on the Financial Aid & Billing page in RamPort.
IRS Form 1098-T Tuition Statement is an informational return. All eligible educational institutions must file an IRS Form 1098-T Tuition Statement for each qualifying student for whom a reportable transaction is made during the calendar year. Forms are not required for students with these reporting exceptions: non-resident alien or non-credit courses.
Please note that the Form 1098-T may not provide all of the information needed to determine eligibility for tax credits. Eligibility for any tax benefit depends upon your individual facts and circumstances. The University cannot provide tax advice.
All eligible educational institutions must file an IRS Form 1098-T Tuition Statement for each qualifying student for whom a reportable transaction is made during the calendar year. ASU students with a reportable transaction will receive a form in the mail or online by January 31st. This includes high school students receiving ASU credit through Dual Credit Programs.
You, or the person who can claim you as a dependent, may be able to claim an education credit on your tax return. This form is used to help figure the education credit. However, the form may not provide all of the information needed to plug into your return or to determine eligibility of any credit.
Please be advised that Angelo State University cannot give legal, tax, or accounting advice, cannot determine if students qualify for a tax credit, and cannot determine the tax treatment of other higher education transactions on your personal tax return. To see if you qualify for a credit, and for help in calculating the amount of your credit, see IRS Publication 970 Tax Benefits for Education, Form 8863, and the Form 1040 instructions. The Interactive Tax Assistant tool on IRS.gov can help determine eligibility for certain educational credits.
Possibly. The information for your form depends on the transaction dates of billing and aid disbursement. This can result in your amounts changing for tax year to tax year, even though your total hours/aid each term did not change.
You should go through RamPort and look for a Tax Notification for the tax year you want. If you do not have a form for that tax year, you will see the message “No tax notification exists for tax year.”

However, students can give a parent, as a Proxy, online viewing access to their student records. All they have to do is create a FERPA/Proxy Authorized User from their secure RamPort account and grant online viewing access by choosing the “Authorization” tab to select the Tax Notification to view. When that is complete, you may log in as a Proxy and view the Tax Notification for the tax year.
Watch the Online FERPA/Proxy videos or scroll to the bottom of the page for more instructions.
Without FERPA/Proxy Access, parents must ask their student to provide them with the Tax Notification from RamPort. The University will not provide the Tax Notification from RamPort to parents.
