Visual & Performing Arts: Guest Lecture Recital featuring Dr. Matthew Bishop

Angelo State University’s Visual and Performing Arts Department hosts an appearance by Dr. Matthew Bishop, associate professor of guitar at Laredo Community College.

Bishop will discuss the evolution of the guitar and perform music from around the world. The program, which is open free to the public, will include American jazz, ancient songs from Japan and Scotland, folk music from Africa and an Argentinean tango.

Bishop holds degrees in guitar performance and musicology from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin.  He has performed, given master classes and lectured across the U.S. on both the guitar and lute.  He has been featured on public radio’s “Live from the Chazen” and has written for Soundboard, the official magazine of the Guitar Foundation of America.
