Russian Enrichment Program: “The Cultural History of Tea in Russia”

ASU’s Russian Enrichment Program will host a presentation by Dr. Katya Severts, a lecturer at the University of Texas, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, in Room 113 of the Academic Building, 2502 Dena Drive.

Dr. Katya Severts Dr. Katya Severts Titled “The Cultural History of Tea in Russia,” the presentation is open free to the public. Severts will speak about how tea became the favorite drink of Russians and what traditions surround tea drinking. The audience will also have a chance to sample different teas and drink them Russian-style. An opportunity for discussion with the speaker will follow the presentation.

Severts teaches courses in Russian language, literature and culture. Her specialization is Russian and English folklore and literature of the 19th century. She is the author of 11 books about the history and culture of Victorian England. 

ASU’s Russian Enrichment Program offers speakers and discussions during the academic year intended to encourage the study of Russian language and culture.
