Night at the Museum, a part of The Melanin Experience

You’re invited to a night at the museum. This Museum is set on various black history time periods. Students have created art to depict their vision of many revering moments in history. Please join us in honoring black history month through art. We hope to see you there.

The Melanin Experience

The Melanin Experience is a series of events derived for the expression of unity. The events included are: “The Family Reunion”, “Don’t Touch My Hair # DTMH”, “Night at the Museum”, “The Apollo: Open Mic Night”, and “Angelo Speaks: Be you”. Each event has a significant meaning to the African American culture. Our goal through these black history programs is to educate students and bring understanding of the African American history in diverse forms. We aimed to create each program with a modern and creative unique style, in hopes that students would find interest in various topics dealing with Black History.

As an African American student here at Angelo State University I was inspired to create these programs as an eclectic way to show the history of my ancestors. I wanted to challenge not only African Americans, but other ethnicities as well to explore this history. The melanin experience allows us to teach about hair, history, music, art, and other forms of entertainment that has been cultivated throughout time.

Each program will be held throughout the month of February. With the help of Students across campus and members of the community we aim to put together programs for students in respect to Black History Month. Within these programs students also have the opportunity to express themselves. The Melanin experience was created to teach, share, embrace, and unite the students of Angelo State University through black history.
