ASU Night of Brass

The ASU student brass ensemble invites you to their spring Night of Brass concert!

The concert will feature Ram prodigies of the Low Brass Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble and Brass Choir.

They will be joined for the concert by world-renowned trumpet soloist Rex Richardson, Dr. John Irish of the ASU music faculty and Eric Baker of the Midland-Odessa Symphony.

The musical program will include:

ASU Low Brass Ensemble

  • “Celestial Fanfare” by Frank Gulino
  • “Mars: The Bringer of War” from “The Planets” by Gustav Holst 

ASU Trumpet Ensemble

  • “Concerto for 5 Trumpets” by Georg Philip Telemann
  • “Cocktail” by Jerome Naulais 

ASU Brass Choir with Rex Richardson

  • “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla
  • “Gallito” by Santiago Lope (Richardson, Irish and Baker)
  • “Concerto for Trumpet” by Brendan Collins
  • “Paquito” by Andy Scott 

About Rex Richardson

Richardson has been hailed as one of the world’s best trumpet soloists and jazz performers by the International Trumpet Guild and DownBeat Magazine. He is regularly a headline artist at international brass and jazz festivals all over the world, and he has collaborated with countless legendary musical artists, including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Morrison, Wycliffe Gordon, the U.S. Army Field Band, the Fodens Brass Band of England, and the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note Jazz Ensemble. He has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University since 2002 and has released multiple performance CDs to rave reviews.
