Homecoming Tradition

A hallway in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center is adorned with plaques commemorating one of Angelo State’s most important traditions, honoring people who serve the university with distinction and enhance its reputation through their career and personal achievements.

The ASU Alumni Association launched that tradition in 1976 with the first Distinguished Alumnus and Outstanding Retired Faculty awards, announced during festivities that have become integral elements of ASU’s annual Homecoming celebration.

Today, the Alumni Association accepts nominations for eight awards and selects one honoree for each, including Distinguished Alumnus, Honorary Alumnus, Distinguished Carr Scholar Alumnus, Distinguished ROTC Alumnus, Golden Ex of the Year, Outstanding Retired Faculty, Distinguished Faculty Achievement and Outstanding Staff.

The honorees are celebrated at several events during ASU’s Homecoming Week, which this year ran Oct. 12–17, culminating with their presentation on the field during halftime of the Homecoming Football Game at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
