First hired as an area coordinator for Housing and Residential Programs, Hawkins also enrolled in ASU’s Master of Business Administration program, graduating in 2002.
That precipitated a move into ASU business operations, first as assistant director of administrative operations and then as director of budget, policy and planning. Now director of grants and operations, Hawkins manages two U.S. Department of Education Hispanic Serving Institution grants, totaling more than $6 million, to improve the learning environment for all ASU students.
Outside the office, Hawkins was instrumental in creating the Ram Family Connection Parent Association, which has served more than 900 families since 2012. She and her husband, Bryan, and their daughter, Hailey, have also been a host family for several ASU international and first-generation students.
“There are opportunities for our students, staff, faculty and community to get involved and support the campus in new ventures every year,” Hawkins said. “You just have to be willing to look, jump in and embrace ASU. I have learned a great deal at ASU and feel very blessed to be a part of the campus.”
In recognition of her career accomplishments and other contributions to the university, the ASU Alumni Association has named Hawkins its 2015 Outstanding Staff Member.
“The people are truly what make ASU the best place to work and go to school,” Hawkins said. “As kindred spirits, the San Angelo and ASU communities complement each other to make this part of West Texas our very own oasis.”
