ASU Intramural Team Wins Regional Title

Angelo State University’s intramural flag football team “Wolfpac” took first place at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association’s National Campus Championship Series (NIRSA-NCCS) Southern Regional Tournament Dec. 2-4, in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Wolfpac defeated a team from Texas Southern University 40-26 in the championship game, held on the University of Southern Mississippi campus.  To get to the tournament final, Wolfpac posted a 44-6 win over a team from University of Florida in the semifinals, a 55-13 win over a team from Troy University in the quarterfinals and a 59-6 victory over a team from Southeastern Louisiana University in the round of 16.  A 56-24 win over a team from Xavier University and a 75-0 drubbing of a team from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College landed Wolfpac in the round of 16. 

Wolfpac’s Trevor Brunet was named tournament MVP, and teammates Reid Jackson and Scott Fankhauser were all-tournament selections. 

The ASU squad will now advance to the NIRSA-NCCS National Flag Football Tournament set for Jan. 4-6 at Texas A&M University.
