Staff Members Win Marketing Awards

Three members of Angelo State University’s communications and marketing staff – Jayna Phinney, Tom Nurre Jr. and Ethan Lankford – won awards for their work at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District IV annual meeting in Dallas earlier this month.

 CASE is an international organization of higher education professionals in the fields of alumni relations, development, communications and marketing. District IV includes colleges and universities in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. 

Jayna Phinney Jayna Phinney Phinney, a web information specialist, won a Silver Award in the web – Blog category for her implementation and oversight of the official ASU blog “Navigating Higher Ed”, which features tips and strategies for student success in all aspects of campus life. All entries are written by ASU students and select faculty and staff who are recruited and trained by Phinney. 

Tom Nurre Tom Nurre Nurre, a news and information specialist, won a Bronze Award in the Social Media – Integration category for his feature story “Thrill of the Hunt” about an ASU animal science student succeeding in college despite suffering a spinal injury that has confined him to a wheelchair. The integrated video of the student, Jacob Reicheneker of Tuscola, was one of the most-viewed videos of 2015 on the ASU YouTube page, and the story received the highest number of shares from the ASU Facebook page for 2015. Ethan Lankford Ethan Lankford Student videographer Ethan Lankford received an Honorable Mention Award in the Video – Student Produced category for his entry “Angelo State Homecoming Video,” which highlighted all the events and activities of ASU’s 2015 Homecoming Week. The video can be viewed on the ASU YouTube page here.  

Leonor Constancio Leonor Constancio Additionally, communications and marketing staff member Leonor Constancio, creative projects coordinator, was recognized for her work at the Higher Ed Marketing Report’s 31st Annual Educational Advertising Awards in Marietta, Ga. She won a Silver Award in the Outdoor/Transit Billboard category for her design direction of the “Raise Your Voice!” banners that feature ASU student-athletes and currently adorn the light poles along Jackson Street on the east side of the ASU campus near the university’s major athletic facilities.
