Angelo State University’s Career Development office provides students the opportunity to take assessments in order to validate and confirm their career choices. Students have the ability to go into the office at any time throughout the year in order to take these tests.

Many students come into college unsure of what major to choose. Some begin taking classes and question whether they are on the right path. The Career Development office offers students like these the opportunity to take two different assessments that serve as a tool in the decision making process of choosing a major.

The two assessments offered are the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory. The MBTI results are a series of “types” of personalities that are based on a person’s preferences. These “types” identify jobs and occupations that are a good fit for the reported “type”. The Strong Interest Inventory organizes assessment results in different scales, such as interests, learning environments, leadership and teamwork. Neither test tells a person what they should be or what they’re good at- they are only tools in the decision-making process of choosing a major or career.

Those who take these assessments often:

  • Have never declared a major or have no idea which direction to take
  • Come into college with a certain major but for some reason need to reconsider it
  • Are alumni who have decided to begin a new career

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator can be taken online here.

The Strong Interest Inventory can be taken online here.

These assessments can be taken in person at the Career Development Office by appointment. Once completed, the results can be discussed with an employee from the office. These assessments can be taken at any point during the year, and can be taken multiple times. In addition to these assessments, the Career Development Office offers résumé critiquing, mock job interviews, lessons on how to dress like a professional, and many more services to help all Rams succeed as professionals. The Career Development Office services are offered to all ASU students, alumni, faculty and staff free of charge.
