ASU Math Students Stay Perfect on TExES

February 21, 2012

For the 15th straight year, Angelo State University students have maintained a 100 percent passing rate on the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) teacher certification test for secondary mathematics.

Seven ASU students took the TExES in February, and their average score of 277.3 out of 300 is the highest average ever posted by an ASU class.  It is also well above last year’s state average score of 226.7.  The perfect passing rate streak began in 1998 and since then, all 150 of the ASU students who have taken the exam after completing the mathematics program have passed.

“These results reflect, once again, the excellence of ASU’s secondary mathematics certification program,” said Dr. Roger Zarnowski, head of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.  “Congratulations are in order for the students who have worked so hard and done so well.  Credit also goes to the many faculty who helped prepare our students.”

ASU students passing the secondary test this year to keep the streak alive were Ben Ellery, Tyler Gueldner, Brett McIntyre, Sarah McKenzie, Alicia Powell, Sheryl Stultz and Matt Tubbs.
