Student Food and Toiletry Pantries
November 02, 2016
Having access to personal hygiene products and food is often taken for granted by many people. For financially unstable students, these items can be extremely hard to come by. The Multicultural and Student Activities Programs Center (MSAP) strives to ensure that these students are able to get the help that they need. To accomplish this, the MSAP maintains a Food Pantry along with a Toiletries Pantry available to any and all students who would otherwise be forced to go without.
The food pantry is continually stocked with non-perishable, healthy items that are microwaveable. These types of foods allow students to prepare their meal in their personal housing unit on campus, regardless of the availability of a stove. The hygiene products consist of mini shampoo and conditioner bottles, body wash, feminine products, and other necessities. Every single hygiene product and food item has been donated to the MSAP for distribution to students in need.
Lizette Guerrero is a student assistant at the MSAP who has been charged with helping keep the pantries organized and running over the course of the past year. When asked to give her thoughts on the program she said, “This is a great program available to anyone who needs it. I am proud to say I work at a place that cares about assisting others.”
The pantry program is kept running year round and is available to all students upon request. The MSAP is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday – Friday during the general school year and also during summer sessions.
This program is open to donations from the community both here at ASU and abroad. For more information on how to contribute or access to the program please contact the Multicultural and Student Activities Programs Center, located in room 114 of the Houston Harte University Center, or call (325) 942-2729.
