Name: Michael Abarca

Classification: Freshman

Graduation: 2020

Hometown: Dallas, Texas

How did you learn about ASU?

I was doing some research on colleges in Texas with a Kinesiology program. I came across ASU, and it seemed like a great school.

Why did you want to attend ASU?
It felt like home when I came to visit ASU for a True Blue Friday. Everyone was very kind, the campus size is perfect, and the professors really care about the success of the students.

What is your favorite thing about ASU?

Getting to meet and hang out with so many great people. Since ASU is smaller campus, I like being able to come across people that I have met since the beginning of the year. My friends attending larger universities have told me that they meet people and then never see them again, which is not the case here at ASU.

What are some of your hobbies?

I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, rock climbing, ping pong, and hanging out with friends.

Are you involved in any student organizations?

Yes, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to start the Rams Ultimate Frisbee Student Organization here on campus. Also, I am one the Freshmen Senators in the Student Government Association.

Do you work on campus? If so, where and what are your responsibilities?

I do not work on campus, but I do have a job off campus as a gymnastics instructor.

What is one piece of advice you would give to help college students succeed?

My biggest piece of advice for any college student is to have at least one accountability partner in every class. It truly does help having someone you can rely on when it comes to asking questions about the assignments and reminding each other about important due dates.
