Chair of Department argues for value of study in language, literature and culture

Dr. Laurence Musgrove, chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages, has published an essay in Inside Higher Ed titled “Market Value of Language, Literature and Culture” in which he argues for the interdisciplinary, humanistic and transferable values of study in courses offered in English and modern languages.  

He writes, “[N]o other academic domains provide basic and advanced study in the distinctly central human inventions of language, literature and culture with the larger aim of improving consciousness, conscience, conduct and confidence.
