“The SBDC, Peggy Rosser, was very helpful in navigating the small business issues unique to our circumstances.”
When military veteran, Michael Brown, began looking for a civilian career, he began looking into the field of awards and trophies. Mike understood that living in Menard, with just a population of 2,500, would not be enough to support a business. He learned that one was for sale in San Angelo, just an hour’s drive from Menard.
Mike and his wife contacted the Angelo State University Small Business Development Center for guidance on purchasing the business. They met with Rural Business Advisor Peggy Rosser.
“The SBDC, Peggy Rosser, was very helpful in navigating the small business issues unique to our circumstances,” Mike stated. Peggy helped the clients understand the sales tax implications of buying a business, helped them work through the particulars of allowing the previous owner to still perform watch repairs and help them work through projections (with improvements) to see if the business would make a profit.
Clients made an offer, bought the business and set up business. They have added one job to the economic base of San Angelo.
