From its grass roots beginning as San Angelo Junior College with a first enrollment class of 112 in 1928, Angelo State University has continued to fulfill and exceed the hopes and dreams of the San Angelo citizens who were so determined to bring higher education to West Texas.
SAJC became San Angelo College in 1932 and then grew to become the four-year institution Angelo State College in 1965 with a first enrollment class of 1,845. ASC became Angelo State University in 1969, and ASU joined the Texas State University System in 1975. When ASU transitioned into the Texas Tech University System in 2007, enrollment stood at 6,239, and then-TTUS Chancellor Kent Hance challenged ASU to reach 10,000 in enrollment by the year 2020.
This fall, ASU is proud to announce that enrollment has already surpassed the 10,000 mark a full three years ahead of schedule, with 10,447 students enrolled for the fall 2017 semester.
Today, Angelo State University is proud to host students from 224 counties across Texas, 45 states and 35 countries. Angelo State University is becoming a destination school for up-and-coming professionals and scholars.
We continue to add new majors and advanced degree programs for students to choose from, pack our athletic facilities full of new sports programs for athletes, and foster relationships with our community.
So go ahead, let them tell us it can’t be done.
We’d love to prove them wrong.
