Angelo State University Announces Gift and Naming of College of Business

June 05, 2018

Angelo State University has received a combined $5 million gift from ASU alumni Lloyd Norris and Blake and Bryan Vincent to benefit ASU’s College of Business, and has named the college in their honor.

The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents approved changing the name of ASU’s College of Business to the “Norris-Vincent College of Business” at its quarterly meeting last month. This is the largest gift ever received to benefit the College of Business.

“This endowment will provide a stream of income that will allow the college to really fulfill the mission it has,” said Dr. Clifton Jones, dean of the newly-named Norris-Vincent College of Business. “Our mission is to provide high-quality business programs for our students and also to have a positive impact on the local community. These resources will really open the doors for us to do some things that we would not be able to do if we didn’t have them.”

Norris, a 1973 graduate, has a strong history with ASU. He established ASU’s first endowed chair, the Norris Family Chair in Business, in 2007, as well as provided funding for ASU’s Norris Baseball Clubhouse and renovations to Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. He was named the ASU Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus in 2015.

The Vincents also have strong Angelo State ties. Not only are they both alums, but they are also the grandsons of former ASU President Lloyd D. Vincent, who held the position from 1967-94. They, along with Norris, are the founding partners of Principal LED, a San Angelo-based company launched in 2010 with the vision of expanding the application of LED technology for signs. Since its inception, the company has grown from five employees to 80.

“This gift comes from the hearts of two Angelo State legacy families,” ASU President Brian May said. “Our students in the College of Business are the ultimate beneficiaries, and we appreciate this extremely generous, thoughtful gift on their behalf.”

Norris and the Vincents have worked together on various projects throughout the past 15 years. Because of their ties to the university and the College of Business, as well as their own entrepreneurial spirit, their generous gift will work to expand business programs and encourage entrepreneurship among ASU students and in the community.
