Rams Clay Target Team Wins Regional Championship

Angelo State University’s Rams Clay Target Team won the Collegiate High Over All team title at the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Clay Targets Lower Midwest International Championships held Oct. 20-21 in San Antonio.

Rams Clay Target Team at Lower Midwest Championships Rams Clay Target Team at Lower Midwest Championships The High Over All team standings are determined by adding together the top five individual member scores from each team in the International Skeet and International Trap competitions. ASU won the team title with 909 points, ahead of Trinity University (780 points) and University of the Incarnate Word (743 points).

The top five International Skeet shooters for ASU were Coleman Pittillo of Sterling City, Cody Hada of Andrews, Colten Hughes of San Angelo, Colton Cmerek of San Angelo, and Lexi Wickham of Cypress. ASU’s top five International Trap shooters were Hada, Hughes, Pittillo, Wickham and Braden Williams of Christoval.

Lexi Wickham Lexi Wickham Individually for ASU, Wickham finished second in the Collegiate Women’s International Trap competition and third in the Collegiate Women’s High Over All standings. Hada, Hughes, Pittillo and Cmerek all finished in the top 10 of the Collegiate Men’s High Over All standings.

The Lower Midwest International Championships contest is a component of the ACUI Collegiate Shotgun Bowl Series. Also competing for ASU were Jacob Bird of San Angelo, Logan Daly of Stanton, Sloan Kail of Midland, Hunter McDonald of Loving, Reagan Wilson of Abilene, and Ian Saint of San Saba.

The other collegiate teams competing against ASU were from Baylor University, Schreiner University, Texas A&M University, Texas A&M-Galveston, Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word and University of the Ozarks in Missouri.

The Rams Clay Target Team was established in the fall of 2015 as a registered ASU student organization and is open to all students interested in clay target shooting. Its faculty/staff sponsor is Kurtis Neal, ASU director of human resources.
