New Student Entrepreneurship Competition
January 25, 2019
Angelo State University has introduced a new student entrepreneurship competition that will allow ASU students to pitch their ideas for new business startups, interact with local business professionals, and possibly win cash prizes to use as seed money for their new ventures.
Titled “BizPitch,” the new competition is coordinated by the ASU Norris-Vincent College of Business and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) – and is open to all ASU undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of their academic major.
The competition will begin on Jan. 30, and students can enter individually or in teams of up to four members. Each contestant or team must submit a video of their business startup pitch between Jan. 30 and the deadline of March 6. The online application form will be available at angelo.edu/bizpitch starting Jan. 30.
The entries will be judged by a panel of local business professionals, most of them ASU alumni, and five finalists will be announced on March 26. The finalists will be invited to make an eight-minute live presentation to the judges and answer judges’ questions during a public event on April 30, when the winners will be announced.
The panel of business professionals who will judge the competition includes:
- Bridgett Carr – Bug Express Pest Control
- Lisa Curry – Raw 1899 and Waterford Wellness Spa
- Lt. Gen. (ret.) Ronnie Hawkins – Hawkins Group
- Ken Mayer – Lucky One Inc.
- Jordy Moorman – Workforce Technologies
The BizPitch competition is designed to provide ASU students with opportunities to learn through interaction with SBDC business advisors and ASU alumni who are successful in business, as well as to promote and foster student entrepreneurship at ASU.
