Angus Cattle Show Team Triumphs at Houston Livestock Show

Angelo State University’s Registered Angus Program brought home a host of awards, including two championships, after showing its cattle on Feb. 28 at the 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Competing in the Open Angus Show, the ASU students won a Grand Champion award in the Cow/Calf Pair Division, a Champion award in the Get of Sire (three cattle sired by the same bull) Division, a Reserve Champion award in the Junior Heifer Division, and a third-place ribbon in the Herdsmanship Contest. Herdsmanship encompasses all elements of a show team, including the cattle presentations and how well the showers represent their program.
ASU students who showed the Registered Angus Program cattle at the Houston Livestock Show were:
- Kalynn Hardegree of Colorado City
- Hailey Riley of Burnet
- Wesley Rogge of Hondo
- Mark Zoeller of Boerne
Their teammates who helped raise the cattle and prepare them for show include:

- Kyra Mund of Fredericksburg
- Jordan Schroeder of Boerne
- Cassie Weishuhn of Eola
The Registered Angus Program is a competitive student team in the ASU Agriculture Department. It is directed by Dr. Chase Runyan, assistant professor, and Audrey Zoeller, instructor of animal science.
