Music Prof to Perform ‘Lady in Blue’ at the Vatican

May 01, 2019

Dr. Fagner Rocha of the ASU music faculty will join with two other Texas musicians to perform the story of the Lady in Blue later this month at the Vatican as part of a bid to win sainthood for a 1620s-era Spanish nun.

The effort is being spearheaded by local musician Cynthia Jordan, who wrote the songs for the Lady in Blue presentation. El Paso native Martha Vera translated the songs into Spanish and will sing soprano for the presentation. Rocha did the orchestral scores and will accompany on violin.

There will also be a free local performance of the Lady in Blue presentation on Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.

The full details of the trio’s journey from the idea to the Vatican is detailed in a story in the May 1 San Angelo Standard-Times.

Rocha is an ASU assistant professor of music and director of the ASU Symphony Orchestra.
