5 Ways Businesses Can Improve Their Instagram

If you have a business and are using social media to promote your products and services then pat yourself on the back. You are part of the new marketing which if you haven’t heard is largely impacted by the Internet. 

Most businesses are on Facebook and Instagram. Two of the biggest and most used social media platforms on the Internet today. Hootesuite.com reports that as of 2019 as much as 1 billion people use Instagram monthly, of which 60% of users seek out and discover new products on Instagram. 71% of U.S. businesses use Instagram. 80% of users follow at least one business.

So if you’re on Instagram how can you make your efforts more impactful and reach your target audience? Here are 5 ways you can improve your Instagram page.

  1. Use Instagram Business page

If you are using Instagram be sure you are using the business version. When first creating your page Instagram gives you the option to use it as a personal profile or business. You can make the switch by going to your settings and account settings. The advantage of using Instagram as a business is the metrics it reports and gathers about your followers. Instagram can tell you when the best time to post is on a weekly and daily basis. Your follower’s age, their gender, and even their location by country and city. Using this information puts you ahead of those that don’t have it at their disposal. You can better target your followers and get maximum exposure to reach your followers at key times when they are most likely to see your post.

  1. Post frequently

Instagram likes pages that post content frequently. If you aren’t posting at least once a day you’re ranking your page and posts lower by default. Being active on social media may seem tedious but making a plan for when and what to post will help alleviate that problem.

  1. Using hashtags

You probably have heard this before. If you’re using Instagram you have some idea of what a hashtag is. Instagram allows users to place hashtags on their posts to help others find them by keywords ex: #diyshirts might be used in a description for a business that hand designs printed shirts, users looking for these types of posts can search for the keywords and also follow pages with posts most closely related to their search. You can use up to 30 hashtags on a post. Be sure you are using relevant hashtags for all of them.

  1. Engage with people in your niche

If you’ve been using Instagram you may be treating it like a Facebook profile. So you may be tempted to engage with your friends and family at first but to really get things moving it’s better to seek out people and pages that are interested or working in your industry. This will show them you’re interested in what you do as well as get them to seek out your page and learn more. Remember social media is all about harnessing the power of relationships. So when people comment on your post, engage with them, interact and start conversations. Instagram rewards engagement by ranking you higher on search results.

  1. Take care of your feed

Your Instagram feed is your digital first impression. This means putting effort and thought into what you post. Taking good pictures with good lighting and yes even using some editing software to make sure quality is at its best before you post. Also, you want your feed to make sense, using similar colors, keeping your posts relevant to your industry and niche will make users understand what you do more easily.
