Angelo State Nursing Prof Named in DFW Great 100 Nurses

Dr. Denise Goddard of the Angelo State University nursing faculty, who teaches online graduate nursing courses from her home in North Richland Hills, has been named one of the Dallas-Fort Worth Great 100 Nurses for 2020.

Goddard will be recognized at the DFW Great 100 Nurses Inc. Celebration on April 14 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. The event honors 100 registered nurses (RNs) who were nominated by their peers and selected for being role models, leaders, community servants, compassionate caregivers and significant contributors to the nursing profession. The nurses recognized come from all practice areas in nursing, including acute care, sub-acute care, school nursing, nurse leaders, academics and many more.

An ASU faculty member since 2015, Goddard is also an ASU alumna, having earned her associate degree in nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees at Angelo State. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner (M.S.N.-FNP) from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) from the University of Texas at Arlington.

As an assistant professor of nursing, Goddard teaches online courses in Angelo State’s M.S.N.-FNP and M.S.N.-Nurse Educator degree programs. She also works as a nurse practitioner at Legacy Physiatry Group in Plano.

A practicing nurse since 1985, Goddard spent 23 years at Shannon Medical Center and two years with Community Medical Associates in San Angelo before heading to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She has worked in various capacities, including urgent care, retail health, family practice, and outpatient rehabilitation and therapy. Prior to joining ASU, she also served as an adjunct faculty member for George Washington University, Catholic University of America and Texas Woman’s University.

Dr. Denise Goddard Dr. Denise Goddard Outside of her teaching and nursing duties, Goddard is a peer reviewer for multiple nursing industry journals, a legislative ambassador for the Texas Nurse Practitioners organization, and a grant reviewer for the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Rural Health Facility Capital Improvement Program. She is also a regular presenter at various professional conferences.

Also dedicated to service, Goddard is a founding board member of the Brothers and Sisters in Christ’s Service organization and is conducting research on the moral distress among nurses working in skilled nursing facilities with the goal of preventing burnout and retaining skilled nurses.

Goddard is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Texas Nurse Practitioners, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses and the ASU Nursing Honor Society.
