Shelter Worker (Animal Services)
Cleans, disinfects and maintains shelter areas as assigned. Feeds, waters and bathes animals. Provides humane sheltering services in compliance with State minimum standards and shelter policies. Safely and humanely handles animals of unknown health and temperament. Contributes to the programs and services that support the shelter’s live outcome goal. Ensures the safety of animals and people in the shelter. Accurately maintains all required records in the shelter’s database. Assists in unloading trucks, stocking shelter areas and storing materials. Maintains facility and grounds in a clean, neat and organized manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some experience working with animals is preferred. Required Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver license with a good driving record. Required Knowledge of: Animal services and related programs. Applicable processes, techniques and principles. Required Skill in: Safely handling animals, including those with unknown temperament. Adherence to disease management and safety protocols. Working with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities. Establishing and maintaining effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public. Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed in the City animal shelter; work involves moderate physical demands. Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards and be able to lift up to 96 lbs.
Temporary position with varying hours Sunday through Saturday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, including holidays.
