ASU Spring Graduates to Receive Diplomas in May 7 Ceremonies

More than 700 students are scheduled to receive diplomas during Angelo State University’s spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 7, in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St.

Graduates of the College of Business and the College of Education will receive their diplomas during a 10 a.m. ceremony. Graduates of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, College of Sciences and College of Nursing and Allied Health will receive their diplomas in a 2 p.m. ceremony. All of ASU’s commencement activities are open free to the public.

During ASU’s commencement, 87 master’s degrees, 388 bachelor’s degrees and 147 associate’s degrees are scheduled to be presented. Graduate students will earn 20 master of arts, 34 master of education, four master of business administration, six master of accountancy, one master of professional accountancy and 22 master of science degrees.

Undergraduates will receive 89 bachelor of arts, 66 bachelor of business administration, 11 bachelor of fine arts, 18 bachelor of interdisciplinary studies, one bachelor of music, six bachelor of social work, 167 bachelor of science, 30 bachelor of science in nursing and 147 associate of applied science in nursing degrees.

Additionally, about 120 students who are scheduled to complete their degree requirements in August will participate in the spring commencement ceremonies. The commencement speaker will be Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance.

The commencement exercises will conclude two days of graduation-related events on the ASU campus. At 1 p.m. on Friday, May 6, ASU’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will conduct its spring Commissioning Ceremony for seven graduating cadets in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center inside the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. Each cadet will receive an appointment as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Also on Friday, the Department of Nursing will conduct its annual Pinning Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena. Pinning ceremonies became a U.S. tradition in the early 1800s to mark students’ completion of nursing education and entry into the profession.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, the ASU Alumni Association will host a party for all graduates, alumni and their families and friends in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave.
