Recreation Assistant (Sports Official)
Must have a current certification in one of the following sports: flag football, basketball, softball, soccer or volleyball. Experience which has demonstrated a good knowledge of the physical factors in individual and team sports. Must have demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of position. Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. Must be able to read, speak, and write English and communicate effectively with patrons. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Must satisfactorily complete a Local Agency Check and a National Agency Check w/Inquiries (NACI).
Officiates at Intramural Team Sports which may include: Flag Football, Basketball, Softball, Soccer and Volleyball. Works under the supervision of the Fitness Center Director and the Sports Director. Sports officiating is a seasonal employment opportunity. The Intramural Sports Official shall, to the best of his/her ability, officiate and/or keep accurate records and scores of those contests sponsored by the Fitness Center, in accordance with the rules of the sport, the regulations, and the Fitness Center by-laws. The official is charged with the responsibility of maintaining orderly conduct on the court or field to which he/she is assigned. Must submit to periodic evaluations, written or practical. Obtains necessary equipment and score sheets when reporting to work and checking in with supervisor; and must return the equipment at the conclusion of each session. Fulfills scheduled obligations. Arrives at the court/field 15 minutes prior to scheduled game time. Ensures that game equipment functions properly and that games are played under safe conditions; reports the need for facility or equipment repairs to the Sports Director or employee on duty. Penalizes and documents in accordance with the rules of the sort and the local by-laws of any unsportsmanlike conduct by players and coaches to the Sports Director. Receives any request for protest and documents them, then immediately contact the Sports Director. Ensures that all participants are using legal equipment. Wears the appropriate officiating attire to all games scheduled.
