Blake Leggett

As a veteran, Blake Leggett understands the need for efficiency in a soldier’s equipment. Blake’s plan to provide the design and manufacture of such equipment led him to seek a city which provided his company, Leggett Tactical Solutions, LTS, with the advantage of being located in a HUB Zone.

Raised in San Angelo, he determined Eden, Texas, 45 miles to the east, was the ideal location. Kathy Keane, Executive Director for the Eden Economic Development Corporation, EDC, suggested Blake contact the Angelo State University - Small Business Development Center for assistance with a business plan. SBDC advisor, Peggy Hodges, provided a framework for them to follow and assisted them along the way. “Peggy was significant in helping create our business plan.” Peggy connected the Leggett’s with the Contracting Resource Center at the UTSA SBDC. They gained valuable information working with Patricia Suarez at UTSA. Kathy Keane continues to provide the Leggett’s
with advice and foresight to help LTS become a major employer contributing to the economic base of Eden.

Blake’s brother, Bryce Leggett, joined the team and together the Leggett’s completed their business plan, projections and application to the EDC’s Intermediary Relending Program offered through the USDA. They were awarded the funding, $175,000 in December of 2009. Coupled with owner injection of $45,000 and office space in the Eden Business Incubator, LTS is actively pursuing both government contracts and sub-contracts. They hope to become a participant in the Mentor Protégé program. “Peggy continues to help with business questions,” Bryce commented.

The third member of the LTS team is Juan. Juan has a vast array of knowledge in the physical construction of the tactical supplies which LTS will manufacture. LTS currently has a staff of six and are poised to win a large contract which will increase their staffing by 20 employees. Eden’s economic base is definitely being impacted by the presence of Leggett Tactical Solutions.
