October 01, 2012

Angelo State University will host its fifth annual ASUFit Health and Wellness Fair on Monday, Oct. 8, in the Houston Harte University Center (UC), 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The fair, which is the largest health fair in the Concho Valley, will provide information and resources related to fitness, healthy living and wellness from more than 50 vendors between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Among special activities during the fair will be 15-minute showings from HBO’s “Weight of the Nation” video series from 11:30-3:30 p.m., and a fitness and wellness kickoff ceremony at 3:30 p.m. with ASU Provost Dr. Brian May, ASU kinesiology professor Dr. Doyle Carter, San Angelo Independent School District’s Jeff Bright and Shannon Medical Center’s Shane Plymell.

Vendors will offer membership discounts, spinal and vision tests, a T-shirt raffle, vitamins and minerals, relaxation techniques, healthy snack samples, pedometers, massages, blood pressure screening, blood glucose testing, exercise demonstrations and flu shots.

United Blood Services will bring its Bloodmobile to accept donations in the UC parking lot.  Anyone interested in donating blood should contact ASUFit coordinator Katherine Garrison at 325-486-6244 or send an email to katherine.garrison@angelo.edu.

SAISD and the Shannon Wellness program are joining ASUFit as partners in this year’s fair.
