Information for:

More Than a Drug Store

October 08, 2012

Myers drug |One of San Angelo’s oldest local businesses, Myers Drug, has a history of providing quality care to their pharmacy customers. Today they also have a vibrant retail store but were struggling in getting the word out to the community. When they ran out of marketing ideas, the SBDC was there to brainstorm.

Myers Drug is located in downtown San Angelo. The business was started by the late C. Russell Myers as Myers Drug Store in 1934. It has been located on historic Chadbourne Street since its inception. The store was originally located at 26 South Chadbourne between the Central National Bank and the Sears, Roebuck and Co. Building. In 1958, after 33 years of operation at the same location, Myers Drug Store relocated to 22 South Chadbourne due to expansion by the Central National Bank. Mr. Myers continued to operate his business at this location until his death in September 1976. In November 1976 the business was purchased by Dale and Joyce Chadwick. Dale had managed the business for the previous five years, allowing for a smooth transfer of ownership. Doug Chadwick joined the staff in 1992 and became the president of the company.

Doug approached the staff of the ASU SBDC in regards to help with marketing their store. Assistant Director Cindy Hartin took the lead and facilitated store visits and marketing brainstorming sessions between the SBDC staff and Myers Drug staff.

Doug commented on the assistance that was provided, “I specifically enjoyed the brainstorming sessions, where ideas were brought to light from a perspective that was not ours…” “I think the work done by the SBDC was truly beneficial for our business in forcing us to work on things that needed to be tweaked so that we could be better at what we do.”
