ASU to Host Sculpture Symposium Events
October 16, 2012
The symposium will run from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall and is open free to the public.
Panelists for the morning session will be Stephen Daly, chair of the Texas Sculpture Group, and Erin Vaden, public art manager for the Texas Tech University System. Joe Arredondo, officer of the Sculpture Network of Texas (SNTX), will serve as moderator.
The afternoon session, sponsored by the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (SAMFA), will feature invited artist Jesús Moroles and competition juror Jed Morse, curator of the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. After an intermission, Moroles and Morse will be joined by Daly and Vaden for a panel discussion moderated by Howard Taylor, SAMFA director.
In addition, a come-and-go reception will be held throughout the day in the Art Gallery, Room 193 of the EFA Building, featuring Austin artist Bill Molthen’s metal works and graphics exhibit.
The symposium is co-sponsored by ASU, SAMFA, SNTX and the Texas Tech School of Art. It is part of the Salmon Sculpture Competition, which will be held Oct. 26-27 at SAMFA, the Old Chicken Farm Art Center and other locations around San Angelo.
