Reading Autobiography Project (RAP)
November 06, 2012
You are invited to apply for participation in the Reading Autobiography Project (RAP) grant participation at Angelo State University. This project, lasting from January-May 2013, will allow content area teachers to explore their own reading history to better serve struggling readers. The autobiography, however, is only the springboard for the project. The content of the staff development associated with this grant focuses most on content area reading and writing for secondary classes. These free workshops will help teachers learn a variety of content reading strategies and are appropriate for any content area teacher, as well as instructional coaches and administrators.
Your teachers will only need to meet five times for the duration of the project from January 2013-May 2013. The workshops will be held at 2 p.m., so that teacher will miss a minimum amount of class time for each session. All sessions will meet on the ASU campus (location TBA). Dates are as follows:
January 29th, 2-5 p.m.
February 28th, 2-5 p.m.
March 26th, 2-5 p.m.
April 15th, 2-5 p.m.
May 9th, 2-5 p.m.
Participants will receive continuing education credits upon completion, as well as additional instructional materials and the opportunity to share their findings and strategies with their department and/or campus. Applications are due by November 10th (the deadline has been extended). Notifications of acceptance will be sent to principals and applicants no later than November 30th.
