San Angelo Book Signing Set at ASU Feb. 21

February 18, 2013

The Friends of the Porter Henderson Library and West Texas Collection at Angelo State University will host a book signing Thursday, Feb. 21, for San Angelo resident Gerron Hite, who wrote and compiled photos for San Angelo:  1950s and Beyond

Hite will discuss his research and sign books, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday in the West Texas Collection Gallery on the second floor of the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

San Angelo:  1950s and Beyond was published by Arcadia Publishing as part of the firm’s Images of America series, which uses archival photographs to tell the stories of communities nationwide.  The new book focuses on San Angelo in the last half of the 20th century.

Hite is a registered architect with over 40 years of experience in the field of historic preservation.  He moved to Texas in 1983 and worked for the Texas State Historical Commission before relocating to San Angelo in 2009.  He is a member of the board for the ASU Friends group.

Prior to the book signing and program, the Friends will host a “picture party” from 2-6 p.m. Thursday where the public can view period photos from the West Texas Collection to help identify people and locations in the historic images.  Most of the photos for the viewing are from the 1940s through 1970s.
