Discover ASU Event Set For March 23

Angelo State University will welcome high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors and their families to campus on Saturday, March 23, for “Discover ASU,” a daylong program designed to help high school students learn about campus life and educational opportunities at the university.

Check in will begin at 9 a.m. in the Houston Harte University Center/C.J. Davidson Conference Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. The day’s activities will follow this schedule:

  • 9:30 a.m. – Welcome                                                 
  • 9:40 a.m. – Overview of Day                                                
  • 10:15 a.m. – Campus Life Sessions                                       
  • 11 a.m. – Academic Sessions                             
  • 11:30 a.m. – Lunch                                                                
  • 12:30-2 p.m. – Department and Student Organization Fair  
  • 1 p.m. – Guided Campus Tours
  • 1-4 p.m. – Residence Hall Tours                                
  • 2-3:30 p.m. – Next Steps Sessions                 

During the campus life sessions, prospective students will choose from topics such as getting involved at ASU, selecting a major, studying abroad and learning more general information about the university.  Programs to be highlighted during the academic sessions include ROTC, security studies, the arts, business, nursing, pre-health professions, pre-veterinary medicine and agriculture, and teacher education.

After lunch, prospective students can attend a department and student organization fair to talk one-on-one with a representative from each group.  Guided campus tours will also run every 10 minutes to help students and their families experience campus life.  Additionally, the Centennial Village, Plaza Verde, Texan Hall and Mary and Robert Massie residence halls will be open for viewing.

The afternoon’s events will include next steps sessions that outline the ASU application process and applying for financial aid.  Prospective students will also be introduced to the My Future website, which includes a timeline of steps to prepare to enroll at ASU.
