ASU Ranked for Intramurals

July 18, 2013

Angelo State University has been named to the BestColleges.com 2013-14 list of Best Colleges for Intramural Sports.

BestColleges.com compiled the list of 50 schools based on the number of intramural sports on each school’s roster, the qualities of team management and coaching, and surveys from current students.

More than 2,000 ASU students participate in intramural sports throughout the fall and spring semesters.  Fall sports are flag football, tennis, badminton, disc golf, volleyball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee and kickball.  In the spring, students can play basketball, racquetball, table tennis, softball, dodge ball, sand volleyball and golf.

ASU’s intramural sports programs are managed by University Recreation (UREC), which has multiple staff members who are or have been active in the National Campus Championship Series (NCCS), the governing body of extramural competition.  With the guidance of UREC staff, student leaders from within UREC developed a club, called the Intramural Advisory Council (IAC), that support teams that want to compete at regional and national levels.

The IAC provides leadership and direction as well as fundraising opportunities for participating teams.  With the experience of the UREC staff and the support of IAC, students have enjoyed many successes in extramural competition.  Most recently, one of ASU’s co-recreational intramural flag football squads won the American Collegiate Intramural Sports National Championship in December.
