ASU Holland Symposium Art Contest Winners Named

Johnson, who specializes in graphic design won first place and a $250 prize with “Overshadowed by Reform,” a digital print. Second place went to Ashley Williams, an art major with a specialization in K-12 teaching certification. She was awarded $125 for her entry, a digital print titled “Patchwork.” Chrys Carter, an art major specializing in graphic design, won third place and a $125 award with his digital print, “Were Waiting.”

Honorable mentions went to Brandy Sheldon, Casey Toland and Melissa Davis Crump.

All the entries are being exhibited in the Houston Harte University Center Gallery, 1910 Rosemont Drive, through Jan. 29. An awards ceremony honoring the winners and all student participants will be held Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibition and awards ceremony are open free to the public.

Entries were judged on creativity, originality, depth of thought, technical competency and relation to the theme of the 2009 ASU Holland Symposium, “The U.S. Health Care System: Current Status and Challenges in Delivering Care.” Symposium judges were faculty representatives Steve Apodaca from the Art and Music Department, Kristen Stanley from the Communications, Drama and Journalism Department, and Martha Sleutel from the Nursing Department.
