Reid Appointed ASU’s VP for Finance and Administration

December 16, 2010

Michael Reid, vice president for finance and administration for the last six years at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, has been named Angelo State University’s vice president for finance and administration, effective March 1.

ASU President Joseph C. Rallo announced the appointment. Reid will succeed current ASU Vice President Sharon Meyer, who is retiring March 1.

Reid brings two decades of administrative and fiscal experience to the ASU position, which oversees university administrative offices, including budget and human resources. Other responsibilities include police; facilities management; facilities planning and construction; environmental health, safety and risk management; and various service departments on campus.

In announcing the appointment, Rallo said, “Michael Reid brings a broad base of experience that will perfectly match his financial and operational responsibilities at ASU. His extensive understanding of university finances and operations will be especially important in the year ahead as Angelo State adapts to the budget challenges facing all state agencies for the next biennium.”

Reid said, “Angelo State has a very clear focus and mission with clear guidelines in where it is attempting to go. That appealed to me because I saw an institution that has gone to the effort to develop a strategic plan and provide clear measures of success. During the interview process, it was very clear that everyone understood the keys to ASU’s success and that the institution was firing on all cylinders. The institutional commitment to planning along with the potential of Texas and the state economy will help us with any challenges we may face in upcoming years.”

In his position at Mansfield University, Reid managed business operations, facilities, athletics, auxiliaries, safety, security, residence life, food services and human resources. He also oversaw all aspects of capital projects, including obtaining necessary approvals, securing funding, and working with appropriate state agencies and state system offices.

Prior to going to Mansfield University, he served as vice president for administration and finance at Pueblo Community College in Colorado from 2001-04. He was director of procurement and capital facilities planning at Southern Utah University from 1996-2001. He served as director of purchasing, risk management and telecommunications at Dixie State College in Utah from 1994-96. He began his career in higher education as material manager at Utah State University in 1991.

Reid earned his Associate of Arts in general studies from Dixie College in 1990. He received his Bachelor of Science in finance in 1993 and his Master of Business Administration in 1998, both from Utah State University.
