ASU to Offer Response to Intervention Course

The course is designed for general education teachers, special education teachers and service providers, counselors and principles. It focuses on the theory and practice of RtI, including three tiers of intervention; screening; selecting appropriate interventions; progress monitoring, including the use of software programs such as AIMSweb; data-based decision-making tools, including protocols such as critical friends; and problem-solving teams.
The graduate-level course will be taught by Dr. Christine Purkiss and Dr. Deborah Anne Banker, ASU assistant professors of education. Participants in the Web-blended course will receive three semester hours of graduate credit. The course will be broken up into 75 percent online and 25 percent in-class study.
