ASU Media Students Win Awards

Seven student staffers of the ASU Ram Page campus newspaper combined for the awards, led by a first place for feature photo by Photographer Marsalis Mahome. Managing Editor Adam Sauceda earned second place for a sports action photo and third place for a sports feature photo. Third place honors also went to designer Mariah Powell for illustration and to writer Victoria Lacy for feature story.
The Ram Page staff earned honorable mentions for overall excellence and editorial performance. Powell received honorable mention for page one design and shared honorable mention for single subject design with Editor Allison Price. Honorable mention also went to writer Terrence Cain for general column and to Advertising Manager Larissa Tonder for ad design.
The ASU students competed in Newspaper Division 3 against students from 13 other Texas colleges and universities. Their entries were judged by out-of-state media professionals.
The TIPA was formed in 1909 and is the oldest collegiate press association in the nation. It oversees contests in general magazine, radio, television, Internet, yearbooks, literary magazines and six newspaper divisions, and conducts 25 on-site contests during the annual convention. The organization also presents scholarships to students representing two-year and four-year institutions of higher learning.
