ASU Prof Named to Higher Education Curriculum Committee
February 18, 2010
Schonberg will join 22 other representatives from Texas institutions of higher education to serve as a forum on Texas Core Curriculum policy by helping solve problems and offering ideas to improve undergraduate education in Texas.
In a letter to Schonberg, Ramund A. Paredes, Texas commissioner of higher education, stated that the committee will continue to seek improvement to undergraduate education that reflects the goals of the Texas higher education plan, “Closing the Gaps by 2015.”
The committee is composed of 23 members, including two from independent universities, one from a health-related institution, 10 from community colleges and 10 from public universities. The advisory committee also includes a non-voting student member who serves a one-year term.
Schonberg’s term will run from his first meeting on Feb. 26 through Dec. 31, 2011. The rotation of committee members is staggered to avoid large turnover in membership at one time.
Schonberg serves on the ASU Core Curricular Committee and was nominated by Dr. Jim Limbaugh, ASU interim provost and vice president for strategy, planning and policy.
