ASU Jazz Band to Perform Tribute to Count Basie

April 05, 2010

Angelo State University’s Jazz Band will perform a tribute to Count Basie on Tuesday, April 13, in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center inside the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is open free to the public.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Count Basie’s band, the Jazz Band will perform six Basie tunes. In addition, Dr. Christine Buckstead, an assistant professor of voice at ASU, will sing a George Gershwin number arranged originally for Frank Sinatra.

Other music on the program includes two songs by Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays and “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla, Argentina’s most renowned tango composer.

The ASU Jazz Band is directed by Dr. Tim Bonenfant.
