June 23, 2010
Now in the astronomy doctoral program at Texas Christian University, Newton will receive $5,000 from the TSGC to put toward finishing her Ph.D.
Established in 1995, the fellowships are designed to encourage graduate study in the fields of space science and engineering. They are awarded on a competitive basis with emphasis on academic excellence, the applicant’s interest in space and recommendations from the applicant’s institution. Each fellowship award is good for one year and may be renewed for up to three years.
The TSGC is a group of 46 institutions (including ASU) that includes universities, industrial organizations, non-profit organizations and government agencies within Texas. Through education and research, the consortium strives to enable Texans to be inspired by and participate in NASA’s mission of better understanding and protecting our planet. The TSGC mission is to improve life on earth, extend life beyond our planet and explore the universe.
