ASU Named ‘Best for Vets’ Business School

March 10, 2015

For the second straight year, Angelo State University’s College of Business has been named one of the nation’s 75 Best Business Schools for Veterans by the Military Times organization in its “Best for Vets: Business Schools 2015” rankings.

The ASU College of Business is ranked No. 24 on the list and is one of six business schools in Texas to earn the “Best for Vets” designation. The Military Times comprises the Air Force Times, Army Times, Marine Corps Times, Navy Times, Military Times and Defense News newspapers and their corresponding websites. Its “Best for Vets: Business Schools” rankings are based on an 80-question survey analysis of a business school’s offerings for military veterans.

According to Military Times, “As with all of the ‘Best for Vets’ rankings, Best for Vets: Business Schools  is an editorially independent news project that evaluates the many factors that make an institution a good fit for military veterans.”

The rankings focus on culture and curriculum that cater to military veterans and factor in academic quality; outcomes and policies; school culture; student support; and cost.

Dr. Sharynn Tomlin Dr. Sharynn Tomlin Dr. Sharynn Tomlin, interim dean of the ASU College of Business, said, “The College of Business has once again been honored as ‘Best for Vets’ and we could not be more proud of this recognition. We strive in every way to address the needs of our veterans who have given so much for our country. As John F. Kennedy once so aptly noted, ‘As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.’”

Dr. Brian J. May Dr. Brian J. May ASU President Brian J. May said, “Designations like ‘Best for Vets’ are more than just something to brag about – they tell us that we are doing right by our military and veteran students. All three academic department chairs in the College of Business are military veterans, so they in particular recognize that military and veteran students often have academic and social needs and priorities that are different from many traditional students. Veteran students deserve and will continue to receive our full support and commitment, and the faculty and staff in the College of Business can be proud that their efforts are being recognized.”

In November, ASU also received its second Military Times “Best for Vets” designation as an overall institution when it ranked No. 31 on the list of the nation’s 140 Best Colleges for Veterans 2015. That followed six straight years of being named a “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs magazine.

Other Texas universities with business schools on this year’s “Best for Vets: Business Schools” list are University of the Incarnate Word, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, Texas Christian University and Dallas Baptist University.

The “Best for Vets: Business Schools” rankings are published in this week’s issues of Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times, as well as online on their corresponding websites and on MilitaryTimes.com.
