Kaltura

Kaltura’s deeply integrated Video Building Block for Blackboard enables students, faculty, teaching assistants and administrators to use and reuse media for course resources, video assignments, lectures, and more. By simplifying media usage, Kaltura aims to enable improved student engagement, creativity, and learning results.

Course Media Module

Inside of Blackboard, you may add a Course Media module to the Module page. This allows you the opportunity to display a series of videos on the home page. Simply navigate to your Course Gallery and select “Add to Gallery Module on Course Homepage.”

Kaltura Capture

The Kaltura Capture feature gives you multiple different options. From this feature, you are able to record your screen, record your screen with the webcam, or just record your voice. You can also access the webcam through the Kaltura Capture feature. For details steps, visit the ASU Knowledge Base Kaltura articles

Express Capture

Kaltura Express Capture enables recording content directly from the browser without the need to install any additional software. For details steps, visit the ASU Knowledge Base Kaltura articles

Reach-Request Captioning and Editing Videos

Instructors can add machine captions to new or existing videos available through My Media. For details steps, visit the ASU Knowledge Base Kaltura Reach article

Deploying Content

After you have uploaded your media to your Course Gallery, you have the option to deploy it to any content area of your choosing. To do this, access the content area and select Build Content. Under Mashups, select Kaltura Media and choose your media!

Removing Content

When removing content, be sure that this is content that does not need to be reused at a later time. To suspend the content, navigate to your Course Gallery, choose the content to be suspended, and uncheck the box “Make this item Public in Gallery”. To remove content, select “Remove from Course.”

My Media

The Media Gallery tool allows the student to view, create, upload and share videos with the instructor and other students. Students can manage the visibility, creation, and removal of content through the Media Gallery.

Kaltura Capture

Upload Your Video

Users can upload their video to any assignment by clicking on the Mashups button in the submission box of your assignment. Make sure the video is in MP4 or MP3 format, file length is between 2-5 minutes, and the file size is NOT to exceed 2 GB.
