The Collection of Genomic Resources has its origins tied to the growth of the Mammals Collection in the 1980s under the direction of Dr. Mark Engstrom, who is now at the Royal Ontario Museum.
Major growth continued after Dr. Robert Dowler became the curator of mammals in 1988.
The Collection of Genomic Resources was recognized as an independent collection when Dr. Loren Ammerman arrived and assumed the role of curator, and she remains in that position today. Under her direction, the collection has accumulated more than 19,000 vouchered samples. The specimens are comprised primarily of mammals, but tissues of birds, reptiles and amphibians are also included. In addition to frozen tissues, the collection also maintains resources preserved in ethanol and lysis buffer.
Data for specimens in the Collection of Genomic Resources are currently maintained within the other existing voucher databases: Mammals, Birds, and Amphibians and Reptiles. Most recently updated data are searchable on Arctos, but specimen information is also housed by GBIF, VertNet and iDigBio.
Although every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of catalog information, researchers should verify the information before use or publication. For additional information not provided through the searchable web interface, or if you have questions, please contact the curator.
Requests for destructive tissue loans should be made in writing to the curator, Dr. Loren Ammerman. Please refer to the ASNHC Tissue Loan Policy regarding the information that should be included in a request.
To search ASNHC Mammals, Birds, or Amphibians and Reptiles records, go to Arctos and select the appropriate Angelo State Natural History Collections (ASNHC) specimen collection from the drop-down menu.
