Athletic Academic Advising Certificate

This certificate program is designed to assist entry level and current professionals to better perform associated duties in the various athletic academic content areas. Emphasis is on the development and expansion of student-athlete services to enhance academic success, character development, and community service as an integral part of the student-athlete experience.

The certificate in Athletic Academic Advising is housed in the Archer College of Health and Human Services Master’s Degree in Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration Program.

Careers

This certificate program is designed to assist entry level and current professionals to better perform associated duties in the various athletic academic content areas.

These areas would include Directors, Associate Directors, Assistant Directors, and Program Supervisors of Athletic Academic Services along with Learning Specialists, Life Skills Specialists, Study Hall Coordinators, Academic Tutors, Academic Advisors, Career Development Counselors, Community Outreach Specialists, Academic Resource Center Supervisors, Team Scholastic Supervisors, and other related roles.

Program Highlights

  • Increase the knowledge and competencies of each student, via both oral and written communication skills, in each of the various specialized areas found under the student-athlete development umbrella.

  • Foster intellectual, professional, and personal development through a wide range of applied courses, activities, opportunities and experiences.

  • Provide developmental experiences in program design, program implementation, program promotion, and organizational communication.

  • Most students complete the program in 12 months or less depending on course availability, start date, and number of courses taken during each semester.

Post-Masters

  • Application for Admission
  • All college or university transcripts
  • $40 Application Fee ($50 for international students)

Prerequisites

Post-Masters

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university
  • Résumé
  • One letter of recommendation

The GRE is NOT a requirement for enrollment, although it may be necessary for evaluation of international students.

Post-Baccalaureate

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in any academic concentration with a GPA of 2.75 or better, including all grades on repeated courses – or hold a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 or better in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.
  • A writing sample that should include three paragraphs explaining:
    • Why you want to be accepted into the program
    • What you will bring to the program
    • What you expect to get out of the program
  • Résumé (used to evaluate pre-professional competencies)
  • Three letters of recommendation

The GRE is NOT a requirement for enrollment, although it may be necessary for evaluation of international students. 

Other Application Deadlines:

Applications accepted year round.  Admission may be granted Fall, Spring or Summer.
